My parents are from Bosnia and I am very fortunate to regularly experience two completely different cultures. We travel there for one month a year to see our extended family which can also come at a cost – and that is the misery I see there sometimes. Bosnia does have a troubled history and it is relatively poor so I have seen firsthand what it is like to live under those conditions.
It is easy to go on social media and feel sorry for people who are less fortunate, but seeing it in person is what we all should do to appreciate what we have. The biggest lesson I have learnt is to give – give to those that need it. Two days ago I donated some money to children in need and I am glad that at 19 years of age, I have learnt quickly what life is really about.
Like I said we can all feel sorry for others in the safety and comfort of our own homes, but what really sucks is children who die without reaching ten years of age – or parents who have to dig out their own children from ruined buildings. Life is really unfair.
